Plow Pose, or Halasana in Sanskrit, is a calming and restorative yoga inversion that stretches the spine, shoulders, and hamstrings while stimulating the Throat Chakra (Vishuddha) and Crown Chakra (Sahasrara). Known for its therapeutic benefits, Halasana improves circulation, encourages mental clarity, and gently massages the abdominal organs.
Halasana teaches surrender and mindful release. As your legs extend overhead and your spine lengthens, you experience both physical opening and energetic flow, creating a sense of balance and calm.
How to Practice Plow Pose (Halasana):
-
Start in Shoulder Stand (Sarvangasana): Lift your legs and hips, supporting your back with your hands.
-
Lower Legs Overhead: Slowly lower your legs toward the floor behind your head, keeping them straight.
-
Touch the Floor: Aim to bring your toes to the floor. If this is challenging, keep toes hovering or use a block for support.
-
Extend Arms: You can keep your hands on your back for support or extend them along the floor, palms down.
-
Align the Spine: Keep the neck long, avoid turning the head, and maintain shoulder and arm support.
-
Breathe Deeply: Take 5–10 slow, even breaths, feeling energy flow from your legs to your crown.
-
Release Carefully: Roll your spine down slowly, one vertebra at a time, returning to a neutral lying position.
